Good quality wigs are pricey. They cost money for good reason- well designed natural looking wigs require time and skill to make. If you have a hair loss medical condition your insurance company may cover some if not all of the cost of your wig. If you need a wig for medical reasons you should check the details of your policy to see if alternative hair, or “cranial prosthesis” is covered.
Health insurance companies are not the best at being obvious about what they do and do not cover. The fine print is often overlooked. Give your health insurance company a call and talk to a live person who can give you the information you need. A doctor’s prescription is often required, requesting a cranial prosthesis (insurance company language for a wig).
At e-Wigs.com, we provide a special invoice for “cranial prosthesis” that helps women get reimbursed for their wig and the special care accessories that wigs require. By submitting our invoice along with the corresponding charge entry on your credit card statement to your insurance company you can qualify for reimbursement to the extent of your policies coverage. If you need an invoice for medical reasons all you have to do is request one using the comments section in the e-Wigs shopping cart and we will send it via email when your wig is shipped.
If your insurance does not cover the full cost of your wig you can apply for a grant or a voucher with the following organizations. Contact these organizations before purchasing a wig to see if you are eligible for financial assistance.
National Alopecia Areata Foundation
The Ascot Fund
American Cancer Society
